Weird Is Wonderful
Remember giggling our way through the power of laughter back in January’s newsletter? Well, this week, I want to explore another path that leads to the same destination: embracing your inner weirdness!
In a world obsessed with fitting in, it's easy to feel pressure to tame your inner quirk. But what if I told you your weirdness is actually your superpower? It's the unexpected twist, the offbeat melody that makes you, who you are. Just like in comedy!
Think about that hilarious Saturday Night Live segment this past weekend with Ryan Gosling as Beavis and Mikey Day as Butt-Head. Their commitment to the weirdness of the characters is what made it so funny. If you didn’t see it, it’s a must.
Here's the thing: being weird isn't about being strange for the sake of strangeness. It's about expressing yourself authentically, just like those SNL actors embodied their characters.
It's about celebrating the things that make you light up.
Remember Rob Paulsen, the Hollywood voice actor I featured in my best-selling book? During his battle with throat cancer, he found solace and even inspiration in laughter. But guess what else helped him? Embracing the weirdness of the characters he voiced!
Even The Guardian highlighted the heart-healthy benefits of laughter:
Laughter helps the heart because it releases endorphins, which reduce inflammation and helps the heart and blood vessels relax. It also reduces the levels of stress hormones.
So, how does embracing your weirdness connect to laughter?
When you express yourself authentically, you're more likely to experience genuine moments of joy. You find your tribe and the people who celebrate your unique quirks.
So here's your action plan to unleash your inner weirdo:
Ditch the Comparison: Stop worrying about fitting in. Ask yourself: what lights you up, and just embrace that!
Own Your Quirks: From funky hats to offbeat hobbies, flaunt what makes you unique.
Find Your Weird Tribe: Surround yourself with people who appreciate your weirdness.
Explore the Unexpected: Step outside your comfort zone. Try new things, even if they seem a little "out there."
Remember, the world needs your unique perspective and your glorious unapologetic weirdness !
